Glossary

* AMPS
Advance Mobile Phone System, is a somewhat ironic name for the original cellular system authorized in the US. It uses an analog FM radio link and it is very easy to eavesdrop on it. AMPS is particularly inefficient in use of spectrum compared to any of the digital standards.
* CDMA
CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access and refers to a technology for the radio link which utilizes spread spectrum communication with very tightly controlled power levels by all participants. There is currently (2/2000) only one commercial system which uses CDMA, covered by the specifications IS-95 and J-STD-008, and thus the term CDMA is often used to refer to that system.

* Dual Band
Dual band refers to a phone capable of operating in 2 different frequency bands, e.g. both at 800 MHZ cellular and at 1900 MHZ PCS. Not all PCS phones are dual band. When a CDMA phone is dual band, most commonly it means it supports CDMA at 1900 MHZ and AMPS at 800 MHZ. Some phones exist which do both of those and also support CDMA at 800 MHZ; these are usually referred to as tri mode.

* 1G
First Generation. Cellular systems based on analog technology. 1G Wireless systems were designed to carry only voice traffic and were limited by network capacity constraints. 1G networks were typicaly based on AMPS.
* 2G
Second Genereation. Cellular wireless based on digital technology. 2G systems offer increased voice quality and capacity to handle more calls. Historically, 2G systems provided voice and 9.6-14.4 Kbps circuit-switched data service. Today, 2G systems are being replaced by 2.5G and 3G network.
* 2.5G
2.5G refers to technology that is more advanced than 2G, but which does not meet the requirements for 3G. 2.5G technology is added to a 2G network to provide packet-data service and data rates that range from 20 to 40 Kbps. In practice, 2.5G is synonymous with the GPRS technology that has been added to GSM networks.
* 3G
Systems designed to increase voice capacity and provide high-speed data. According to the official ITU definition, a 3G network must provide a minimum of 144 Kbps from a moving location, or up to 2 Mbps from a fixed location. 3G will enable users with high-speed data, advanced global roaming and enhanced multimedia capabilities. CDMA provides the basis for 3G technology, which has been implemented as CDMA2000 and WCDMA (UMTS)

* CDMA2000
Provides a set of specifications which offer enhanced voice and data capacity. CDMA2000 is recognized by the ITU as global standard for 3G wireless systems.
* BTS
Base Transceiver Station (BTS) - the radio part of a wireless network (typically cellular or PCS) that includes the transmitters and receivers, antennas and tower that is used to communicate with mobile radios. A BTS is connected to a Base Station Controller (BCS)
* BCS
A Base Station Controller is an automatic coordinator that permits one or more base transceiver stations (BTS) in a wireless network to communicate with a mobile switching center

In Japan, recreational sex was traditionally associated with water, and all of the night-time entertainment trades have long been referred to as the mizu shobai (mee-zoo show-bye) or the "water business."

KYOTO — There is no agreement on how the term mizu shobai came into use. but it is fairly obvious that the extraordinary number of natural hot springs and the ancient Japanese practice of bathing daily (without sexual discrimination) led to the early association of water and pleasure. Shintoism, the native Japanese religion, advocates both scrupulous cleanliness as well as the lusty celebration of human fertility.

It was probably during the heyday of Japan's last great shogunate dynasty (1603-1868), that the term mizu shobai came into use. This was a period that saw the rise of huge bathhouses in which the pleasures of the flesh were as much of an attraction as the hot water, a great network of roadside inns around the country that featured hot baths and sexual release, and the expansion of geisha districts and courtesan quarters in every city in the country.

While organized prostitution was subject to the control of the shogunate government and the 200-plus daimyo (dime-yoe) provincial lords in their own fiefs, it was a legitimate enterprise that was not under a cloud of moral righteousness. The Japanese did not associate sex with sin or with the love of one person for another, and thus over the eons have been spared the suffering imposed on Christian and Muslim people by their religious leaders.

Perhaps the strongest criticism one might make in regard to the sexual mores of feudal Japan is that it was a man's world, with all of the customs and institutions designed to satisfy the needs and whims on men, and generally to ignore those of women. While this was unfair and deplorable, it nevertheless was responsible for many of the feminine characteristics for which Japanese women are known and admired — and, of course, was primarily responsible for the many aspects of the mizu shobai that foreign male visitors to Japan find so fascinating.

However, in present day Japan, the women are getting their revenge. In many ways, the tables have been turned on men, and it is women who call the sexual tunes. Japanese women in general are willing, eager participants in the ongoing play between the sexes, and there is a growing trend for young girls to take the initiative in their relations with men.

THE ROLE OF ALCOHOL

In Japan, as in most countries, sexual activity and drinking alcoholic beverages are closely related. Drinking for ceremonial as well as pleasurable purposes has been an established custom in Japan since mythological times, with sake (sah-kay), or rice wine, having been sanctified by the gods of Shinto as well as temporal leaders.

The Japanese are now among the champion drinkers of the world, imbibing sake, beer, whiskey, vodka and other drinks with equal enthusiasm. Almost everybody in Japan drinks a little now and then, and the majority drink regularly. But somewhat surprisingly, some Japanese are especially sensitive to alcohol, which causes them to flush a deep red after just one or two swallows, and to become drunk (and often sick) after drinking only a modest amount of alcohol.

Certainly not all Japanese are susceptible to this odd condition, and many pride themselves on their ability to drink in great volume. Among most men, being a strong drinker is considered a traditional macho badge, and heavy drinking plays a significant role in the lives of most Japanese businessmen and many professionals.

Japanese drinking etiquette requires that hosts and other members of drinking parties see that each other's glasses never remain empty or low. This results in a great deal of pressure for people to drink fast and heavily, especially at parties and other celebrations where one of the specific goals is to make sure that everyone gets drunk. (The Japanese have traditionally believed that you could not get to really know a person until the person got drunk and ignored etiquette and role-playing.)

It is difficult for visitors to spend very much time in Japan without getting in involved in numerous drinking sessions — or coming up with an acceptable excuse (such as doctor's orders) to refrain. If you do drink but want to control the amount it is a good idea to simulate drunkenness (to whatever degree that is appropriate for the occasion) after only two or three drinks.

Sake has traditionally been the social oil of Japan, and while it has been replaced in overall consumption by beer it remains a standard by which the Japanese measure appreciation of their culture. If you do not drink and enjoy sake, at least on ceremonial occasions, you are not a true Japanese or a true friend of Japan.

THE UBIQUITOUS NOMIYA (NO-MEE-YAH)

The most common feature of Japan's mizu shobai is the nomiya (no-me-yah), which number in the hundreds of thousands. Nomiya means "drinking place." There are several different varieties and classes of drinking establishments. These include what are typically referred to as bars, lounges, nightclubs, and cabarets, along with beer halls, pubs and shops specializing in sake.

There is a great deal of overlapping in the use of these terms but there are basic differences in them, including some that are prescribed by law. One of the most important of these legal differences is that, regardless of what they are called, a nomiya must be licensed as a cabaret to employ hostesses who sit with, dance with, and otherwise personally entertain patrons. Another legal factor is that a place must be licensed as a restaurant to stay open after midnight.

Because they are legally allowed to offer the company of young women, cabarets and so-called night clubs and "hostess bars" have been the crowning glory of Japan's night-time entertainment scene from the early 1950s to the present time.

There are some basic differences in cabarets, night clubs, and hostess bars or lounges. Cabarets and night clubs are usually large, and both may feature live entertainment in addition to their complement of hostesses.

In cabarets, patrons are automatically assigned hostesses as soon as they come in and are seated, and are charged a hostess fee that is more or less based on time as well as on the class and standards of the individual cabaret. If a patron has a favorite hostess, he may request her for an additional fee.

Big spenders may allow more than one hostess per guest to join them at their tables or booths. They may also allow the girls to rotate, giving more girls the opportunity to earn fees. (Some places automatically rotate the hostesses in order to run up the bills of their customers; a ploy that yakuza controlled places routinely use on naive customers, including foreigners.)

Night clubs generally allow patrons to choose whether or not they want the company of hostesses — a concept introduced into the mizu shobai by the founders of the first postwar night clubs in the late 1940s, most of whom were foreigners, including some Americans. These clubs also catered to husbands and wives or girl friends, while cabarets were (and most still are) exclusively for men.

Other points that have traditionally separated cabarets from all the other forms of nomiya is that they are mostly patronized by middle-aged and other businessmen, and for the most part they bill the companies of their clients for payment rather than collect cash from them on an individual basis. This means that the average cabaret customer must establish his credentials and credit before he can charge his bills.

If the individual represents a known company this is usually easy to do. He introduces himself in advance, sometimes with an introduction from someone who is already a regular customer, presents his name card to the cabaret manager, and is thereafter a customer with a credit rating.

The individual's position in the company (title) and the size of the company are fairly clear indications of how much he is authorized to spend on each visit to the cabaret, and this is understood by the cabaret and generally not abused (prices are often more or less understood rather than being set).

THE IZAKAYA (EE-ZAH-KAH-YAH) PUBS

One type of drinking establishment that originated during the Edo period (1603-1868), but was modernized in the 1970s, is known as izakaya (ee-zah-kah-yah), which were working men's taverns in the old days but are now popularly referred to as pubs, and cater especially to the young who have modest entertainment budgets.

Today's izakaya mix the traditional Japanese tavern and the fast-food restaurant concept in a combination that attracts the young in droves. There are many izakaya chains, with Yoro no Taki (Yoe-roe no Tah-kee) being the largest (and rapidly spreading to the American West Coast). Yoro no Taki has some 1,800 branches in Japan, most of which are franchises.

The big attraction of the izakaya are the low prices for the basic alcoholic beverages (sake, beer and shochu), good solid food and the fact that they cater to women as well as men. The main food items at Toro no Taki are sashimi, yakitori, pot dishes, salads, melted cheese on tofu or shrimp, turkey nuggets, and ravioli.

Another of the izakaya chains is Tsuhachi (T'sue-hah-chee), with some 400 outlets), which offers such things as potato pizza, Chinese dishes and desserts of blueberry yogurt and ice cream. Calorie-counts are listed on each item, and ones that are classified as "health foods" are flagged with a pink heart.

Another of the more unusual izakaya is the Murasaki (Muu-rah-sah-kee) chain, which combines the atmosphere of a cafe-bar with a furusato izakaya (fuu-rue-sah-toe ee-zah-kah-yah), or "hometown tavern." With nearly 650 outlets, Murasaki emphasizes food rather than drinks, with such menu choices as whale bacon, salted squid intestines, melted cheese on tofu and Italian salads. Its drinks feature banana, apple and pineapple juices mixed with shochu. Another well-known izakaya chain: Hachitsu.

"SINGING BARS"

One of the most popular types of bar in Japan today is the karaoke (kah-rah-oh-kay) bar, or bars that provide microphones, sound equipment and tape-decks for patrons who want to sing to the company of orchestra-like music. Karaoke means "empty orchestra," and refers to the illusion that the singer is performing with a live orchestra.

There are thousands of such bars in Japan, and it is a matter of personal pride that everyone who goes into such a place, try his or her hand at singing in public. Most Japanese practice singing several songs in private (often for years) so they won't be embarrassed when they are called on to perform in public.

Performing in a karaoke bar means more to most Japanese businessmen than just having a good time. Besides relieving stress and providing personal satisfaction, such performances are seen by many as important to one's overall character and personality — as an accomplishment that is similar to such traditional but now rare arts of calligraphy, and composing haiku poetry, which were marks of cultural attainment.

In explaining the importance of the karaoke bars to foreign guests, the Japanese businessman will often say that you must understand karaoke in order to understand the Japanese, and that if you truly want to communicate with them you must learn how to sing along with them as well as perform on your own. There is a great deal of validity to this firmly held and often expressed belief which obviously accounts for the number and popularity of such bars.

The fact that very few Westerners, particularly Americans, can carry a tune, much less sing decently, is a social handicap when they are in Japan visiting or on business. My advice is to learn at least one song, even if it is as simple as "Old Grey Mare" or "I've Been Working on the Railroad."

Notwithstanding all of the new and different kinds of drinking and carousing establishments Japan, cabarets remain the favorite of middle-aged and older men who can afford the cost because they combine drinking with the attention of very attractive young women who are either available or work very hard to give that impression.

Even though cabaret customers may not end up trysting with their favorite hostesses, they go back time and again for the sexual lift they get— and end up drinking an awful lot of alcohol. For no where in the world have the purveyors of male-oriented "recreation" become more skilled at "selling sex in a glass" than the operators of Japan's cabarets and their cadre of hostesses.

Recreation and Amusement Association

The Recreation and Amusement Association (特殊慰安施設協会, tokushu-ian-shisetsu-kyōkai?) (RAA), or more literally Special Comfort Facility Association, was the official euphemism for the prostitution centers arranged for occupying U.S. armed forces by the Japanese Government after World War II. [2].

Founding
The RAA was created on August 28, 1945 by the Japanese Home Ministry and a civilian organization through joint capital investment (50 million yen each), officially to contain the sexual urges of the occupation forces, protect the main Japanese populace from rape and preserve the purity of the Japanese race. The official declaration of 19 August 1945 stated that "Through the sacrifice of thousands of 'Okichis' of the Shōwa era, we shall construct a dike to hold back the mad frenzy of the occupation troops and cultivate and preserve the purity of our race long into the future..."[3] The RAA's own slogan was "For the country, a sexual breakwater to protect Japanese women" (お国のために日本女性を守る性の防波堤?).

In September, the system was extended to cover the entire country. Allied GHQ (General Headquarters) commandeered these institutions (22 places of prostitution) on September 28 because rapes by the occupation army soldiers were frequent.[4][5][dubious – discuss]

Unlike wartime "comfort women" forced to serve Japanese forces, most employees of the RAA were Japanese women, mostly prostitutes and others recruited by advertisement as well as through agents. However, there are testimonies from some women saying that they were coerced into service as bonded labor, and some Japanese sources even assert that the centers were in fact set up by GHQ's demand.[5]

The price for a sex act was 15 ¥Yen (US $1 in 1945, US$ 8.94 in 2009[6]); soldiers paid beforehand and received a ticket and a condom in return.

In January 1946, the RAA was terminated by an order to cease all "public" prostitution.[7] The ban is traditionally attributed to the efforts of former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. General Douglas MacArthur declared all places of prostitution off limits in an attempt to counter the spread of sexually transmitted diseases on March 25, 1946 as by then more than a quarter of all American GIs in the Japanese occupation forces had a sexually transmitted disease.[1]

MARIJUANA

The history of marijuana use reaches back farther than many would guess. Cultivation of the Cannabis sativa plant dates back thousands of years. The first written account of cannabis cultivation (ostensibly used as medical marijuana) is found in Chinese records dating from 28 B.C. That means Chinese cultures were growing marijuana more than 2,000 years ago. However, the plant may have been cultivated long before then -- there have been reports of a nearly 3,000-year-old Egyptian mummy containing traces of THC, the main psychoactive chemical in marijuana.
Cannabis sativa is perhaps the most recognizable plant in the world. Pictures of the ubiquitous green cannabis leaf show up in the news media, textbooks and drug-prevention literature, and the leaf's shape is made into jewelry, put on bumper stickers and clothing and spray-painted on walls. The leaves are arranged palmately, radiating from a common center like the fingers of a hand spreading apart. Although most people know what the cannabis plant looks like, they may know very little about its horticulture.

Cannabis sativa is believed to be a native plant of India, where it possibly originated in a region just north of the Himalayan mountains. It's a herbaceous annual that can grow to a height of between 13 and 18 feet (4 to 5.4 meters). The plant has flowers that bloom from late summer to mid-fall. Cannabis plants usually have one of two types of flowers, male or female, and some plants have both. Male flowers grow in elongated clusters along the leaves and turn yellow and die after blossoming. Female flowers grow in spikelike clusters and remain dark green for a month after blossoming, until the seed ripens. Hashish, which is more powerful than marijuana, is made from the resin of the cannabis flowers.

Marijuana plants contain more than 400 chemicals, 60 of which fit into a category called cannabinoids. THC is just one of these cannabinoids, but it's the chemical most often associated with the effects that marijuana has on the brain. Cannabis plants also contain choline, eugenol, guaicacol and piperidine. The concentration of THC and other cannabinoids varies depending on growing conditions, plant genetics and processing after harvest. (story) A Box Full of Kisses

The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy."

The man was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found out the box was empty. He yelled at her, stating, "Don't you know, when you give someone a present, there is supposed to be something inside? The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and cried, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty at all. I blew kisses into the box. They're all for you, Daddy."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness.

Only a short time later, an accident took the life of the child. It is also told that her father kept that gold box by his bed for many years and, whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each one of us, as humans beings, have been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses... from our children, family members, friends, and God. There is simply no other possession, anyone could hold, more precious than this.

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end. There will be no more
sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected, whether

or what you were owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies
will finally disappear. So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists
will expire.The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you
lived, at the end. It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter ? How will the value of your days be measured ?

What will matter is not what you bought, BUT what you built.
What will matter is not what you got, BUT what you gave.
What will matter is not your success, BUT your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, BUT what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice
that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your memories, BUT the memories that live in those who
loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Sebuah film Yesus yang dituturkan dari cara pandang Islam baru saja diluncurkan di Iran . Hal ini menyebabkan berbagai
reaksi dari komunitas Kristen, karena di film tersebut Yesus tidak mati disalibkan tetapi digantikan oleh Yudas Iskariot.

Judul film ini "The Messiah" - ditulis, di produksi dan disutradarai oleh seorang pembuat film dari
Iran bernama Nader Talebzadeh. Film ini di buat di Iran dan Yesus pun dimainkan oleh seorang aktor Iran . Film ini
dibuat berdasarkan apa yang Alquran tuliskan tentang Yesus dan berdasarkan Injil Barnabas - sebuah kitab yang tidak
termasuk dalam kanonisasi Alkitab.

Film ini menyajikan dua penutupan film - dari sudut muslim dan Kristen tentang Yesus dan salib-Nya. Film ini
memenangkan penghargaan dari Roma, Rome 's Religion Today Film Festifal sebagai nominasi dialog antar umat
beragama. Dr.Emir Caner, seorang dekan dari Southwestern Baptist theological Seminary merekomendasikan untuk orang
Kristen menonton film ini, dan menanyakan beberapa hal berikut ini:

Hampir secara keseluruhan "The Messiah," penampilan Yesus dalam film ini mirip dengan fersi Yesus
yang dibuat oleh dunia barat. Rambut pirang dan melakukan mukjizat. Hanya yang berbeda adalah bagaimana Yudas
tiba-tiba secara ajaib berubah menyerupai Yesus dan menggantikan Yesus disalibkan.

"Dia (Yesus-red) bukan Anak Allah dan tidak pernah menjadi Anak Allah. Dia hanya nabi dan Dia tidak pernah
disalibkan, itu adalah orang lain yang disalibkan menggantikan Dia," Talebzadeh menyatakan kepada CNN.

Film fenomenal yang melibatkan hampir lebih dari 1000 orang ini merupakan sebuah film terbesar yang pernah dibuat di Iran .

The burly four-wheeled machines are the fastest-growing segment of off-highway vehicles, flying out of dealer showrooms at an average rate of more than 1,500 new units per day nationwide.According to industry estimates, consumers who are new to ATV riding -- for recreation and for work -- are playing a significant role in the machines' meteoric rise in popularity. Ease-of-Use, Versatility Create New ATV Fans You might be surprised to know that weekend recreational riding -- affectionately known as "mudding" by experienced off-roaders -- is not the dominant rationale for ATV buying. With annual sales growth hovering in the double digits for more than a decade, ATV products clearly are attracting consumers from varying backgrounds and with diverse reasons for owning the machines. With a growing number of models to choose from, new ATV buyers use their machines for a new range of utility and recreational activities:

* Trail riding. "The South is booming with recreational trails and public lands that offer ATV access," said Chris Bryant, owner of Outback Motorsports in Monroe, Va. "I'd say approximately 50 percent of our customers buy ATVs for trail riding." * At least 300 pounds of cargo capacity. "Even if you'll be using your ATV primarily for recreation, it's likely that you'll want to haul a weighty load at some point," Mueller said. Even ATVs at the low-end of the Arctic Cat size range offer 300 pounds of total (front and rear) rack capacity.

* A fully sealed, waterproof engine. A sealed engine can help ensure that an ATV will be able to go through water, mud and snow without problems. "Customers want an ATV they can use in a variety of weather and trail conditions," said Mike Loscheider, owner of Waconia Farm and Home Supply, Waconia, Minn. Decaffeinated coffee is not totally caffeine free, containing about 3mg of caffeine. A can of Coca-Cola has about 23mg of caffeine, Pepsi Cola 25mg, Mountain Dew 37mg, and TAB 31mg. Tea has about 40mg of caffeine, while an ounce of chocolate contains about 20mg.

The first Espresso machine was introduced in 1822 by the French, but it was the Italians who perfected and distributed it.

Coffee business

Coffee is the world's most popular stimulant: 4 out of 5 Americans drink it, consuming more than 400 million cups a day. Consumption in Scandinavian countries is more than 12kg (26lb) per capita. With more than 25 million people employed in the industry, coffee is one of the largest trade industries in the world.

Although coffee is believed to have been grown near the Red Sea since the 7th century, an Arabian author of the 15th century, Shehabeddin Ben, wrote that Ethiopians enjoyed coffee ever since anyone could remember. By the 16th centuries, coffee plants were found throughout the Yemen region of Arabia. After a Turkish ambassador introduced it to the court of Louis XIV in 1669, Europeans quickly acquired a taste for it. A few years later, the Dutch introduced coffee into Java. In 1714, the Frenchman Desclieux planted a single cutting of a coffee tree on the island of Martinique. Plantations soon grew from French Guiana to Brazil and Central America. Today, coffee is planted in moist regions around the world.

Instant coffee was invented in 1906 by Mr. G. Washington, an Englishman living in Guatemala.

Caffeine is removed from coffee by treating the green beans with chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents. Instant coffee is prepared by mixing ground and roasted coffee with hot water. The water is then evaporated by spray dryers and high pressure, leaving only the coffee powder. In some coffee products, coffee is replaced with chicory (a wildflower herb), fig, date, malt, or barley, remotely resembling real coffee.

Caffeine is known medically as trimethylxanthine, and the chemical formula is C8H10N4O2.

Roman tragedian Seneca (4 BC–AD 65) is said to have read "all the books in Rome" by peering through a glass globe of water. A thousand years later, presbyopic monks used segments of glass spheres that could be laid against reading material to magnify the letters, basically a magnifying glass, called a "reading stone." They based their invention on the theories of the Arabic mathematician Alhazen (roughly 1000 AD). Yet, Greek philosopher Aristophanes (c. 448 BC-380 BC) knew that glass could be used as a magnifying glass. Nevertheless it was not until roughly 150 AD that Ptolemy discovered the basic rules of light diffraction and wrote extensively on the subject. (The laws of diffraction was formulated much later by Snellius, between 1600 and 1620.)

Venetian glass blowers, who had learned how to produce glass for reading stones, later constructed lenses that could be held in a frame in front of the eye instead of directly on the reading material. It was intended for use by one eye; the idea to frame two ground glasses using wood or horn, making them into a single unit was born in the 13th century.

In 1268 Roger Bacon made the first known scientific commentary on lenses for vision correction. Salvino D’Armate of Pisa and Alessandro Spina of Florence are often credited with the invention of spectacles around 1284 but there is no evidence to conclude this. The first mention of actual glasses is found in a 1289 manuscript when a member of the Popozo family wrote: "I am so debilitated by age that without the glasses known as spectacles, I would no longer be able to read or write." In 1306, a monk of Pisa mentioned in a sermon: "It is not yet 20 years since the art of making spectacles, one of the most useful arts on earth, was discovered." But nobody mentioned the inventor.

In the Middle Ages wearing spectacles signified knowledge and learning. Painters of the time often included spectacles when portraying famous persons even when depicting people who lived before the known invention of spectacles. On numerous paintings the religious teacher Sofronius Eusebius Hieronymus (340 - 420 AD) is portrayed with a lion, a skull and a pair of reading glasses. He is the patron saint of spectacle makers.

This day is an important day for Indonesia and for me. First, this is Hime Day for me. And second, this is Heroes Day in Indonesia (called “Hari Pahlawan”).

Indonesia decided this day as Heroes Day bacause of heroic incident that happened in Surabaya on 10 November 1945. That day is deadline of ultimatum from Major General Mansergh(I don’t know the exact grade term, in Indonesia this grade called “Mayor Jenderal”) for all leader and Indonesian people that posses weapon to surrender. Mansergh was a substitute for Brigadir General Mallaby, England troop leader for East Java that was killed by Indonesian troop on October 30th 1945. This incident happened because Flag of Netherland was wavered in Yamato Hotel (Hotel Oranje) by Netherland army (NICA, Netherlands Indies Civil Administration). This action insulted Indonesian, so some of them torn the blue part of Netherland’s Flag to be only red and white, means Indonesia’s Flag. This triggered other incident between Indonesian troop vs Netherland troop in Surabaya then followed versus England troop and the peak incident was the death of Mallaby.

Mansergh’s Ultimatum was rejected by Indonesian because on that time, Republic of Indonesia was established since August 17th 1945 so no one can give that such ultimatum.
In the morning of November 10th 1945, England troop attack Surabaya with 30.000 men, 50 planes (including bombers), 24 Sherman tanks, and several war ships. Surabaya was attaced with so many boms. There was so many victims from Indonesian citizen but Indonesian troop never give up and then citizen helped too.

England estimated that they can conquer Surabaya in 3 days, but because of heroism of Indonesian people (one of them is Bung Tomo from Surabaya), it took long time until a month.
Surabaya was conquered because of difference of war technology.
In November 27th 1945, KNIP (Komite Nasional Indonesia Pusat) or Center National Comittee of Indonesia protested very very hard to top leader of England tropp in Indonesian for their action.
Surabaya’s war triggered so many wars in other places againts NICA and England troop. Because of their heroism and to remind of the victims so that day was decided as Heroes Day in Indonesia.

This day, I’m thinking about what that means for me. What is the meaning of “hero” for Indonesian people today.
I think, this is the right momment for me to “back on the right track”. I’ve done so many useless things, so his is the right time for me to act more effectively. I’ve wasted my time in some meaningless actions, so this is the right time to throw away that activities.
Related to the word “hero”, I think this is the right time to be hero for ****, an invisible hero. Hahahaha :)) I think you know what I mean.

I also want to give “advice” to my leaders, “Please, show us real actions as we expected about you to make Indonesia better. We can help you to be heroes, but first, show us that you capable to.”

The quest to become the first to fly around the earth

n 1924 four Douglas World Cruisers and eight American crewmen set out from Seattle, Washington, to attempt the first around-the-world airplane flight. One hundred seventy-five days later three of the aircraft and crews became the first to circumnavigate earth.

The Douglas World Cruiser biplane was a variant of the Navy's DT-2 torpedo bomber that could be operated either with wheels or floats. The prototype was delivered 45 days after the contract was let in summer 1923. Tests were successful, and four more aircraft were ordered. Each of the aircraft was named after a US city representing a compass point: Seattle, crewed by Maj. Frederick Martin (pilot and flight commander) and SSgt. Alva Harvey (flight mechanic); Chicago, crewed by Lt. Lowell H. Smith (pilot) and 1st Lt. Leslie Arnold; Boston, with 1st Lt. Leigh P. Wade (pilot) and SSgt. Henry H. Ogden aboard; and New Orleans, with Lt. Erik Nelson (pilot) and Lt. Jack Harding in the cockpits.

The success was largely a result of extensive planning; 30 spare engines were dispatched all over the world prior to the flight; with co-operation of the Royal Air Force and the US Navy, 28 nations supplied thousands of gallons of fuel and oil along the flight path.

The airplanes left Seattle, Washington, on 6 April 1924 and headed west, equipped with the latest navigational aids. Even so, fog, blizzards, thunderstorms and sand storms took a toll. On April 30, Seattle crashed in dense fog on a mountainside near Port Moller on the Alaska Peninsula. Major Martin and Sergeant Harvey hiked out of the wilderness. The remaining crews continued, flying on to Japan, Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, Europe, England, and Ireland. On 3 August Boston was forced down in the North Atlantic, sinking in rough seas while being towed. A prototype was dispatched to Nova Scotia, where Lieutenant Wade and Sergeant Ogden renamed the aircraft Boston II and rejoined the flight. The crews stopped in several US cities and returned triumphantly to Seattle on 28 September.

The trip had totalled 175 days, covering 44 360 km (27,553 miles), with stops in 61 cities, the total flying time being 371 hours, 11 minutes.

Nine years later, in 1933, it took another American, Wiley Post, only 7 days to be the first to fly solo around the world. Between July 15 and 22, Post covered 25 110 km (15,596 miles) in 7 days, 18 hours and 49 minutes in one of the most remarkable displays of flying endurance of the century. Post's single engine Lockheed Vega, the Winnie Mae was equipped with a Sperry automatic pilot, a radio direction finder, and other new devices.

Earlier, in 1931, ex-barnstormer Post and navigator Harold Gatty had thrilled the nation by dashing around the world in the Winnie Mae. The flight was not only a great technical achievement, but one which demanded extraordinary fortitude. For over 106 hours, neither Post nor Gatty had an opportunity to sleep. The flight's elapsed time of 8 days, 15 hours and 51 minutes far surpassed the previous record of 21 days set in 1929 by the airship Graf Zeppelin.

The first non-stop flight around the world was made by, again, a team of the US Air Force flyers in 1949. Taking off from Carswell Air Force base in Fort Worth, Texas on 26 February, Captain James Gallagher and a crew of 14 headed east in a B-50 Superfortress, called Lucky Lady II. They were refuelled four times in air by KB-29 tanker planes of the 43rd Air Refuelling Squadron, over the Azores, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Hawaii. The circumnavigation was completed on 2 March, having traveled 94 hours and 1 minute, covering 37 743 km (23,452 miles) at an average 398 km/h (249 mph).

The next quest was to fly around the world, nonstop, non-refuelling.

By 1986 designer Burt Rutan and pilots Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager had devoted over five years to building and flight-testing the Voyager. The canard wing design, or forward elevator, similar to that successfully used by the Wright brothers in 1903, provided additional lift and improved the plane's efficiency and range. A preliminary sketch of the 1903 Wright Flyer was drawn on a brown paper bag in the Wrights' living quarters in 1902. Coincidentally, the first sketch of the Voyager was made on a paper lunch napkin in 1980.

Constructed of graphite composites, Voyager's total weight was 4 050 kg (9 000 pounds), including an unprecedented 3150 kg (7 000 pounds) of fuel. On 14 December 1986 Richard Rutan and Jeana Yeager took off from Edwards, California, piloting the Voyager from a cramped 2,3 m (7.5 ft) long, 1,1 m (3.3 ft) wide and 1m (3 ft) tall cockpit. Voyager's takeoff weight was more than 10 times the structural weight, but its drag was lower than almost any other powered aircraft. Voyager's wingtips sustained minor damage during its takeoff roll because of the massive amount of fuel. Approximately 75 cm (2.5 ft) of graphite skin was missing from the left wing's foam core.

Traveling at an average speed of 185 km/h (115.8 mph), it took the Voyager 9 days, 3 minutes and 44 seconds to become the first aircraft to circumnavigate the globe nonstop, non-refuelling. They triumphantly landed again at the Edwards Air Force Base at 8:06 a.m. PST 23 December 1987.

The Douglas World Cruiser Chicago is now on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D. C., while New Orleans is on display at the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica, California. The Seattle wreckage was retrieved in 1967 through the efforts of Bob Reeve to go on display in the Centennial Aviation Museum, which caught fire in 1973. It survived the fire and is now displayed at the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum.

In 1964 Geraldine "Jerri" Mock became the first woman to fly solo around the world. Her single-engine Cessna 180 was called the Spirit of Columbus.

hers on 8 March 1910. (By that time many women in Europe were flying, albeit without an official licence.) In 1911, Harriet Quimby became the first licensed American female pilot. In 1912, Quimby became the first woman to fly across the English Channel.

The first in-flight refuelling was tackled by the US Air Force on 25 June 1923. In August, lieutenants Lowell H. Smith and John P. Richter set a world's record by staying aloft for 37 hours and 15 minutes in a DH-4 over San Diego with the help of refuelling from another DH-4 (above).

'Most expensive apartment ever' in NYC goes on sale

So much for the bad economy. The "most expensive apartment ever" to go on sale in New York" is going on the market, according to the New York Observer, which reports that the price will no less than $60 million.

The apartment, at 740 Park Avenue, is owned by Courtney Sale Ross, widow of Steve Ross, who, as CEO of Warner Communications, engineered the merger of Warner with Time Inc. to create Time Warner in 1990.

Ross' apartment is a duplex that was created by combining two apartments. Michael Gross, author of a book on 740 Park, reports on his Web site that the apartment, on the 12th and 13th floors, is the largest apartment in the building. One apartment had 14 rooms while the other had 18 for a total of 32 rooms.

Even if you are in the market for a 32-room, $60 million apartment, odds are you won't get to see this one. Broker Edward Lee Cave told the Observer, "it's going to be the most expensive apartment ever sold in New York,' and that only 10 people will see the apartment because only 10 people "are appropriate" to see it.

According to Gross' book, 740 Park has housed some of America's wealthiest and most powerful families since it was completed in 1930 as the last great building to go up along what was known as New York's Gold Coast. If Ross does find a buyer for her apartment, she may be moving downtown. The Observer reported in October 2007 that Ross had bought a penthouse for $7.25 million at 160 Wooster, a condominium that was built in the last few years.

According to its Web site, 160 Wooster has fifteen condominiums on eight floors. The apartments feature floor-to-ceiling windows with top-of-the-line sound-deadening glass allowing residents to "enjoy the energy of one of Manhattan's most dynamic neighborhoods, without having to hear it."

Biography

Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six weeks later the family moved to Munich, where he later on began his schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium. Later, they moved to Italy and Albert continued his education at Aarau, Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics. In 1901, the year he gained his diploma, he acquired Swiss citizenship and, as he was unable to find a teaching post, he accepted a position as technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. In 1905 he obtained his doctor's degree.

During his stay at the Patent Office, and in his spare time, he produced much of his remarkable work and in 1908 he was appointed Privatdozent in Berne. In 1909 he became Professor Extraordinary at Zurich, in 1911 Professor of Theoretical Physics at Prague, returning to Zurich in the following year to fill a similar post. In 1914 he was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute and Professor in the University of Berlin. He became a German citizen in 1914 and remained in Berlin until 1933 when he renounced his citizenship for political reasons and emigrated to America to take the position of Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton*. He became a United States citizen in 1940 and retired from his post in 1945.

After World War II, Einstein was a leading figure in the World Government Movement, he was offered the Presidency of the State of Israel, which he declined, and he collaborated with Dr. Chaim Weizmann in establishing the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Einstein always appeared to have a clear view of the problems of physics and the determination to solve them. He had a strategy of his own and was able to visualize the main stages on the way to his goal. He regarded his major achievements as mere stepping-stones for the next advance.

At the start of his scientific work, Einstein realized the inadequacies of Newtonian mechanics and his special theory of relativity stemmed from an attempt to reconcile the laws of mechanics with the laws of the electromagnetic field. He dealt with classical problems of statistical mechanics and problems in which they were merged with quantum theory: this led to an explanation of the Brownian movement of molecules. He investigated the thermal properties of light with a low radiation density and his observations laid the foundation of the photon theory of light.

In his early days in Berlin, Einstein postulated that the correct interpretation of the special theory of relativity must also furnish a theory of gravitation and in 1916 he published his paper on the general theory of relativity. During this time he also contributed to the problems of the theory of radiation and statistical mechanics.

In the 1920's, Einstein embarked on the construction of unified field theories, although he continued to work on the probabilistic interpretation of quantum theory, and he persevered with this work in America. He contributed to statistical mechanics by his development of the quantum theory of a monatomic gas and he has also accomplished valuable work in connection with atomic transition probabilities and relativistic cosmology.

After his retirement he continued to work towards the unification of the basic concepts of physics, taking the opposite approach, geometrisation, to the majority of physicists.

Einstein's researches are, of course, well chronicled and his more important works include Special Theory of Relativity (1905), Relativity (English translations, 1920 and 1950), General Theory of Relativity (1916), Investigations on Theory of Brownian Movement (1926), and The Evolution of Physics (1938). Albert Einstein received honorary doctorate degrees in science, medicine and philosophy from many European and American universities. During the 1920's he lectured in Europe, America and the Far East and he was awarded Fellowships or Memberships of all the leading scientific academies throughout the world. He gained numerous awards in recognition of his work, including the Copley Medal of the Royal Society of London in 1925, and the Franklin Medal of the Franklin Institute in 1935.

Einstein's gifts inevitably resulted in his dwelling much in intellectual solitude and, for relaxation, music played an important part in his life. He married Mileva Maric in 1903 and they had a daughter and two sons; their marriage was dissolved in 1919 and in the same year he married his cousin, Elsa Löwenthal, who died in 1936. He died on April 18, 1955 at Princeton, New Jersey.

In Windows, how do I safely rebuild my computer after a system-level compromise?

The most common reason for rebuilding your Windows computer is a system-level compromise, such as infection with a system-level worm (e.g., Blaster, Welchia) or a system bug that's been exploited. If you encounter these circumstances, you must rebuild your computer to be sure that you have removed all traces of the compromise. Additionally, if you were running a Windows operating system earlier than XP, UITS strongly encourages you to rebuild with XP. To thoroughly clean and rebuild your computer, be sure to take all of the following steps; failure to do so can put the entire IU network at risk:

Note: If you live in campus housing, you must run the Get Connected software after the rebuild is complete. If you were blocked from the network, you must request and wait for the block to be lifted before you can use it. 1. Remove your computer from the network by unplugging the network cable from the computer, or by turning off the wireless or dial-up connection. Do not reconnect your computer to the network until the last step, after you've taken all the following steps; otherwise, you risk being compromised again.

2. In preparation for wiping your computer's hard drive, back up your personal files to disk. The easiest way to do this is to burn them to CD. For information about burning CDs in Windows XP, see In Windows XP, how do I write a CD?

3. Perform a clean install of Windows XP. (Again, make sure you've backed up your personal files; they will be unrecoverable after you wipe the hard drive.) If your Windows XP CD says "with Service Pack 2", you can skip step 4 below. Use the original disks to reinstall any other software applications you own. Make sure you use a different password for the administrative account than you used in the previous installation. When you reboot your computer, allow automatic updates when prompted, which is the recommended action. For instructions to install Windows XP, see How do I install Windows XP?

Note: At IU Bloomington, if you aren't comfortable rebuilding your computer, you can use Carry-in Consulting.
4. Reinstall drivers for your network card, printer, and other devices. Either use the driver disk provided by the manufacturer of the device or visit the manufacturer's web site and download the driver.

5. Install all Windows patches and service packs. Be sure to install XP Service Pack 2 (SP2); see What are service packs for Windows, and where can I get them? You can also burn your own SP2 CD, but you must use an alternate computer to do this, not the compromised computer. Note: Windows patches are no longer available on IUware Online or on the IUware CD. The Get Connected software contains most Windows patches. 6. Turn on a personal firewall; see In Windows XP, how do I enable or disable the firewall?

7. Install antivirus software and spyware detection and removal utilities. Symantec AntiVirus and Windows Defender are available free to students, faculty, and staff on the IUware CD. For further help, see:

8. Reconnect to the network, and change your IU Network ID passphrase immediately after you have rebuilt your computer. When crackers have control of your computer, they can monitor and log every keystroke you enter (e.g., passwords, email conversations). Why do I have to format and reinstall Windows after my computer is infected with a virus?

For many virus, worm, or Trojan computer infections, either the UITS Support Center or the University Information Security Office (UISO) will tell you that you must reformat your hard drive (i.e., erase Windows) and reinstall Windows from scratch. You are sometimes told to do this even when your antivirus program can remove the virus, or when the companies that make antivirus programs have tools available to delete the infection.

UITS tells you this because there's a threat beyond the virus, worm, or Trojan itself. Most current infections leave the computer open to further compromise. The virus or worm itself is merely the carrier of something else that might be more malicious. Following are examples:

* W32.Mytob.JI@mm
* W32.Spybot.WON
* W32.Bobax.AJ@mm
* PWSteal.Reoxtan

The first two examples actively open a backdoor, through which other malicious programs can be loaded. The third turns an infected computer into a proxy, which allows someone to direct Internet traffic through in order to obscure the source of the traffic. The last installs a monitor that attempts to capture passwords and uploads them to some remote computer.

In all these sample cases, you can remove the infection (the virus) itself, but problems remain:

* In the W32.Mytob.JI@mm and W32.Spybot.WON cases, something else separate from the worm can be installed. A backdoor can let anything in, and that's how these two worms function. Removing the backdoor does not address what may have come through it in the time between infection and removal; those are separate problems.

* W32.Bobax.AJ@mm and PWSteal.Reoxtan modifies registry entries and files, and those changes cannot be undone by Symantec's antivirus products. The user must manually restore the information.

* PWSteal.Reoxtan also keeps password and other information it steals on a text file on the infected computer. Unless these files are found and deleted, they are a security risk. Any future infection that allows access to files on the infected computer will allow access to the password(s) in that text file.

So it is entirely possible to suffer negative effects even after cleaning your computer with an antivirus program. Many current infections follow the pattern of the four examples above; it is extremely rare for a virus, worm, or Trojan not to allow for or leave any further compromise. In the case of infections that install backdoors, since it's difficult or nearly impossible to determine what came through before the backdoor was removed, it's impossible to determine how compromised a computer is. For security's sake, the worst must be assumed. That is why UITS and UISO require you to erase your Windows installation and reinstall it: It's the only way to guarantee no further compromises remain.

Traffic lights in use before there were motorcars

Traffic lights were used before the advent of the motorcar. In 1868, British railroad signal engineer J P Knight invented the first traffic light, a lantern with red and green signals. It was installed at the intersection of George and Bridge Streets in front of the the British House of Commons to control the flow of horse buggies and pedestrians.

Motorcars were introduced to the US in the late 1890s and the need for traffic control soon became obvious. A number of people came up with ideas for traffic control. In 1910, Earnest Sirrine of Chicago, Illinois filed for a patent (no 976,939) for what is considered the first automatic street traffic system, using non illuminated words STOP and PROCEED.

In 1912, Lester Wire of Salt Lake City, Utah invented an electric traffic light that used red and green lights. However, he did not apply for a patent. The next year, James Hoge received patent no 1,251,666 for a manually controlled traffic light system using electric lights. It was installed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914, displaying the words STOP and MOVE.

The first traffic light system to use red and green lights were patented by William Ghiglieri of San Francisco, California in 1917 (patented no 1,224,632). His design could be operated manually or in automatic.

The amber light was added in 1920 by William Potts, a Detroit policeman. He actually invented several traffic light systems, including the overhang four-way system, but did not apply for patents. The first person to apply for a patent to produce inexpensive traffic lights was Garrett Morgan, who received his patent in 1923.
Parking Meter

The credit for taking all your parking credits goes to Carlton Cole Magee who invented the first parking meter in 1932, receiving a patent (no 2,118,318) for it in 1935. His Magee-Hale Park-O-Meter Company installed the first meter in Oklahoma City in 1935 and still produces most of the parking meters in the United States.
Don't Walk

The first "Don't Walk"' signs were installed in New York City on 5 February 1952. Red remained the preferred color for warning signs because red elevates the blood pressure, heightening nervous tension, therefore the most likely color to attract attention. Yellow is used in signs aimed at vehicle traffic because it is the most visible color in the spectrum and can be seen from the farthest distance.

2700 languages spoken in the world

The "invention" of language is not known except for references in the Bible. It is not known what language Adam and Eve spoke. The first mention of different languages is the reference to the tower of Babel when different tongues were bestowed.

The invention of writing, however, is credited to the Sumerians of Mesopotamia in the 4th millennium BC. Their descendants, the Sumero-Babylonians, developed the time system that we use today: an hour divided into 60 minutes, which are divided into 60 seconds.

Today, there are more than 2 700 different languages spoken in the world, with more than 7 000 dialects. In Indonesia alone, 365 different languages are spoken. More than 1,000 different languages are spoken in Africa. The most difficult language to learn is Basque, which is spoken in north-western Spain and south-western France. It is not related to any other language in the world. Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world, followed by English. But as home language, Spanish is the second most spoken in the world.
Youngest language

The youngest language in the world is Afrikaans, spoken by South Africans. Dutch and German Protestants fled persecution from the Roman Catholic Church in the 17th and 18th century to settle in the Dutch colony of Cape of Good Hope on the southern point of Africa. By the early-20th century Afrikaans had developed from Dutch, German and other influences into a fully fledged language with its own dictionaries. After a mere 100 years, it is the second most spoken language in South Africa (Zulu being the most spoken, the Zulu people being the largest ethnic group there).

Age of Discovery
The Age of Discovery was led by the the great sea adventurers in their search for a route to spice markets of the Far East when the eastern Mediterranean were blocked by powerful rivals. When Vasco da Gama sailed around the Cape of Good Hope to reach India in 1488, the Portuguese concentrated their efforts to the south and east. The Spanish, who agreed to divide the world in two with the Portuguese in the Treaty of Tordesillas on 7 June 1494, sailed west. They were not aware of the American continents and no one knew there was a Pacific Ocean.

Christopher Columbus (1451-1506), an Italian who had moved to Spain, theorised that since the earth was a sphere, a ship could reach the Far East from the opposite direction. He convinced the monarchs to sponsor his search, setting sail in August 1492. After 10 weeks, he sighted an island in the Bahamas, which he named San Salvador. Thinking he had found islands near Japan, he sailed on until he reached Cuba (which he thought was China) and Haiti. He encountered dark-skinned peoples whom he called "Indians" because he assumed he had been sailing in the Indian Ocean.

Columbus made 3 more voyages to the New World which he thought was the East, in 1493, 1497 and 1502, exploring Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, and Trinidad. He never reached North America, and until he died, thought he had reached Asia.

North America already discovered
Viking ships reached North America almost 500 year before Columbus set sail. Sailing from Iceland in mid-990, Biarni Heriolfsson was blown off course and located an unknown land. He did not explore or name it. In 1002 Leifr Eiriksson backtracked Biarni's course and reached the coast of present-day Canada. He then sailed south and discovered an island he called Vinland (present-day Newfoundland) where he established a colony and traded for 3 years with the native population known as Skraelings. The Skraelings eventually forced them to leave, but the Vikings continued to sail to Canada for timber.

"New Found Land"
In 1497 King Henry VII granted John Cabot (1450-1498) a charter to explore. On 2 May Cabot and a crew of 18 left Bristol, England in a small ship called Matthew. He sailed farther north than Columbus did, out of the way of the Spanish territories. On 24 June the crew sighted land. Cabot was convinced he had found an island off the coast of Asia and named it "new found land." It was the first documented landing in Newfoundland since the Viking voyages. Cabot returned to England on 6 August 1497, and although he brought no spices or treasure back with him, he was the first to map out the North American coast.

Naming "America"
The Portuguese-Spanish dividing line ran through the Atlantic with Spain gaining lands to the west, including the Americas. Brazil was granted to Portugal, who gained eastern Africa and India. But without accurate measurements, the question on the exact line persisted. In 1501, King Manuel I of Portugal dispatched fleets to Brazil, one of the officers being the Italian Amerigo Vespucci. He was among the first explorers to report that South America was a continent, not an island, calling it the "New World". An excellent mapmaker, Vespucci sold copies of his maps to German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller, who, when reproducing it in 1507, gave Vespucci credit by writing his first name on the South American continent. Thus the southern continent became known as "America".

The first circumnavigation
The first circumnavigation of the globe was led by Ferdinand Magellan, who was born in Oporto, Portugal in 1480. In 1505 he enlisted in the navy where he learned seamanship and naval warfare under Portuguese viceroys in India. In 1509 he took part in the Battle of Die, which gave Portugal supremacy over the Indian Ocean. For 7 years he traded from Cochin, China and Malacca.

Like Columbus before him, Magellan believed he would reach the Far East by sailing west. Snubbed by the Portuguese king, Magellan convinced the Spanish king, Charles I that at least some of the Spice Islands lay in the Spanish half of the undiscovered world. In September 1519 Magellan set sail with 280 men on 5 ships (San Antonio, Santiago, Trinidad, Victoria, and Concepcion) on a voyage fraught with hardship and mutiny. An Italian nobleman on the ship, Antonio Pigafetta, kept a diary of the voyage.

They crossed the equator on 20 November 1519 and sighted Brazil on 6 December. Magellan thought it unwise to go near the Portuguese territory since he was sailing under the Spanish flag, and anchored near present-day Rio de Janiero on 13th December. They were greeted by Guarani Indians who believed the white men to be gods and showered them with goods. After stocking up, they sailed south, reaching Patagonia (Argentina) in March 1520. The Santiago was sent to explore further south and was lost in a gale.

In August, Magellan decided it was time to move further south to look for a passage through to the east. By October they sighted a strait. During the passage, the captain of San Antonia turned his ship back toward Spain, taking most of the fleet's provisions.

Into the vast Pacific
The 3 ships emerged from the strait to the Pacific by end-November. Magellan thought the Spice Islands were a short voyage away, but they sailed for 96 days without sighting land. Conditions aboard the ships were abominable. The crew survived on sawdust, leather strips, and rats. Finally, in January 1521, they stopped off at an island to feast. In March, they reached Guam. The Armada de Maluco reached the Philippines (which Magellan named San Lazaro) on 15 March 1521. He anchored at Suluan on 16 March and went to Homonhon on 17 March. On March 28, 1521 Magellan and his fleet made landfall at Mazaua.

After befriending an island king, Magellan foolishly got involved in a tribal war and was killed in battle on 27 April 1521. Sebastian del Cano took command of the ships and 115 survivors. Because there were not enough men to crew 3 ships, he burned the Concepcion.

They sailed to the Moluccas (Spice Islands) in November, loading valuable spices. To guarantee that at least one ship would make it back to Spain, the Trinidad went east across the Pacific, while the Victoria continued west. The Trinidad was seized by the Portuguese and most of her crew were killed. The Victoria managed to elude the Portuguese in the Indian Ocean and rounded the Cape of Good Hope. On 6 September 1522, almost three years from the day it began its historic journey, the Victoria and 18 crew members (Pigafetta among them) arrived in Spain. They were the first to circumnavigate the globe. When the Victoria's spices were auctioned, the income was high enough to cover all the expenses of the voyage and even produce profit.

"On March 28, 1521 Magellan and his fleet made landfall at Mazaua, a mystery island that is the object of a controversy parallel to the Columbus first landfall question. My studies show Mazaua is in 9 degrees N. A team of geologists, geomorphologist and archaeologist was hired in year 2000 to search for the isle and have discovered a most improbable thing: an isle that has been fused with mainland Mindanao at Butuan City. We hope to excavate and find authentic remnants of Magellan's visit. If indeed this was Mazaua, there's no question there will be material proof of Magellan's having been to this isle."

The second circumnavigation
The second circumnavigation of the globe was accomplished by the pirate-turned-explorer Englishman Francis Drake (1540-1596). Seeing Spain amassing a new vast empire, Queen Elizabeth I secretly sent Drake to the west, with the added intent to harass the Spanish. On 13 December 1577 Drake sailed from Plymouth, England with 6 ships under his command.

In September 1578 five of the ships turned back at the Strait of Magellan, while Drake sailed on in the Golden Hind. By June 1579 he had reached the coast of present-day California and sailed as far north as the present-day United States-Canadian border. He then turned southwest and crossed the Pacific Ocean in 2 months. He voyaged through the Indies, across the Indian Ocean, and around the Cape of Good Hope. With the Golden Hind laden with gold and spices, he sailed into Plymouth on 26 September 1580, the first captain to circumnavigate the globe.

Captain Cook
Another famous circumnavigation was that of James Cook. He sailed from England on 25 August 1768 aboard the Endeavour with 94 crewmen and scientists. On 11 April 1769, they reached Tahiti. On government orders, they sailed south, reaching New Zealand on 6 October. By April 1770, Cook explored and documented Australia. The Endeavour then made its way to Java, sailing on past the Cape of Good Hope. On 13 July 1771 Cook sailed into Dover. Following the historic 3-year journey, he was appointed Naval Commander by King George III.

First solo circumnavigation
Joshua Slocum, who was born in Nova Scotia in 1844, became an American citizen and Captain Slocum at age 25. On 24 April 1895, at 51-year old, Slocum sailed out of Boston in his 11m (37ft) sloop Spray, a decrepit oyster dredger that he had rebuilt himself.

Slocum crossed the Atlantic toward the Suez Canal. In Gibraltar, he was warned of pirates in the Mediterranean. So, he started back across the Atlantic, and headed down the Brazilian coast, through the hellish Strait of Magellan. He faced deadly currents, rocky coasts and heavy seas as he sailed around Australia, the Cape of Good Hope, and across the Atlantic.

On 27 June 1898, more than 3 years and 74000km (46,000 miles) later, Joshua Slocum entered Newport, Rhode Island, as the first man to sail around the world solo.

First around with only one stop
The honour of being the first to sail around the world alone with only one stop went to Francis Chichester (1902-1972). In 1966, the 64-year old Chichester sailed his 16m (53ft) ketch Gypsy Moth IV from England. The steering mechanism broke 3 700km (2,300 miles ) from Australia. Soon after leaving Sydney, the Gipsy capsized but righted itself. Around the Cape Horn, Chichester faced 15m (50ft) high waves. But he was not a man to step back from a challenge. In 1960 he was the winner of the first single-hand transatlantic race. He also made the world's first solo long distance flight in a seaplane (England to Australia). On 28 May 1967, after 226 days at sea, he was welcomed back by a half-million people at Plymouth, England.

Around Alone
Today, sailing single-handedly non-stop around the world still grabs the imagination. Chay Blyth, nicknamed "the man of steel" became one of few when he sailed against the winds around the world from east to west aboard the ketch British Steel in 1971, completing the voyage in 302 days. Two years later Frenchman Alain Colas aboard his trimaran Manureva circumnavigated around the 3 great capes, taking only 129 days to complete the voyage.

The first woman to sail solo around the world Dame Naomi James. In 1979 the 29-year-old braved the seas for 272 days circumnavigating the globe via Cape Horn, the classic "Clipper Route."

On 21 May 2008, Adrian Flanagan became the first person to complete a single-handed, vertical circumnavigation, covering the 31 000 miles in 405 days 18 hours 50 minutes.

Jonathan Sanders circumnavigated the globe 7 times single-handedly. He also achieved a remarkable non-stop triple circumnavigation between May 1986 and March 1988, covering 131,535km (71,023 nautical miles). There's no such thing as a "normal" cholesterol level, but we do have targets to aim for.

HDL ("good cholesterol"): The higher your HDL is, the more protection you get against atherosclerosis. I tell everyone to try to get their HDL up to at least 40. Low HDL values, below 35-40 mg/dl, are considered dangerous, while numbers above 60-65 mg/dl actually reduce your risk.

There is a little disagreement on the specific thresholds. Men are generally told to strive for higher levels than women, because men have greater risk of atherosclerosis than women the same age. The best way to increase your HDL is with exercise. Diet and current medications don't have very much effect.

Triglycerides: High triglyceride levels not only increase the risk of atherosclerosis, they can also cause liver disease and pancreatitis. Most experts agree that everyone should try to keep their triglycerides below 150 mg/dl.

Our bodies produce triglycerides as a way of storing excess energy to be used later. Amedeo Giannini, son of Italian immigrants to the US, started the Bank of America in a converted saloon in San Francisco at 9 am on Monday, 17 October 1904. On the first day, 28 deposits totalled $8,780.

When an earthquake struck in 1907, he ran his bank from a plank in the street. Word quickly spread about his service and by 1916 he had several branches. By 1929, the bank was strong enough to withstand the Great Depression stock crash. Giannini changed the name to Bank of America in 1928 and remained chairman until 1963.

The Bank of England was founded by William Patterson after King William III of England found himself badly in need of funds to fight a war with France in 1694. The very first bomb that the Allies dropped on Berlin in World War II killed the only elephant in the Berlin Zoo, it is said. On 5 October 1960 an early-warning system warned the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) of a massive Soviet nuclear missile strike approaching the United States. What happened is that a fault in a computer system had removed two zeros from the radar's ranging components, detecting the missile attack at 4 000km (2,500 miles) away. The radar was actually detecting a reflection from the moon, located 400 000km (250,000 miles) away.

On 3 June 1980 a massive Soviet missile attack was again registered by computers. 100 nuclear-armed B-52s were immediately put on alert. A computer fault was detected in time, but three days later the same error occurred and again the bombers were put on alert. The problem was later traced to the failure of an integrated circuit in a computer, which was producing random digits representing the number of missiles detected.

On 10 January 1984, Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, recorded a message that one of its Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles was about to launch from its silo due to a computer malfunction. To prevent the possible launch, an armoured car was parked on top of the silo.

The history of nuclear weapon accidents is as old as their introduction
The US Department of Defence (DoD) first published a list of nuclear weapon accidents in 1968 which detailed 13 serious nuclear weapon accidents between 1950-1968. Kalimantan has been experiencing a rapid rate of deforestation for the last 25 years. In Kalimantan the deforestation rate is about 1.48 million square meters of forest lost every hour! Or 25000 square meters per minute!

The causes of Kalimantan deforestation are:

* Increase in demand for agriculture land use

The increase of demand of land for agriculture purposes means that there are more lands being cleared due to the agriculture activities. Agriculture activities involve the rearing of animals and the cultivation of crops. Indonesia government have made a population resettlement to ease the over crowding of Java and Sumatra island. Indonesians that had been resettled choose to stay in Kalimantan. This causes the increase of population in Kalimantan. New settler who stay and grow small holding of crops cleared land for cultivation. Some crops cultivated are for sale, this motivated the new settler to clear more land in order to cultivate more crops. There is also a source of demand came form plantation companies. As oil palm is very common plantation in Indonesia and it bring a high export rate to Indonesia. Lands are being cleared to grow oil palm which are cheap to grow and highly profitable.

* Growth of settlements

As population increases it leads to crowed settlements and land are being cleared for housing purposes. Lands are being cleared for the growth and expansion of town or cities which is known as the urbanization. People are moving from rural settlements to urban settlements to work due to the more opportunities of jobs in the urban settlements. This increases the population in town or cities area which causes urbanization to occurs.

* Improved transport network

Transport networks like road and railway tracks are build to link settlement and to allow access to previous remote forested areas. Improves accessibility give an easier access for people to destroy more areas of the rainforest.

As logging is one of the incomes of Indonesia. There are a lot of logging activities that is carried out in Kalimantan. Forest are cleared in order to sell timber for profit. Since 1990s it is a recurring problems due to wide spread burning of rainforest in Sumatra and Kalimantan. In several occasion strong wind blow haze to nearby country which affect other countries like Singapore and Malaysia. Haze results health problems like eye, nose, throat irritation, coughs, headache and lung infections. It also ceased the everyday activities of people and shows of tourism industry declining. Tourist will tend to stay away from the regions and slight were to stops due to the poor visibility.

What we are doing to the planet we are living on?

Hi everyone, I have a question and would like to see where everyone stands on this.
Lets compare the world as a whole to a smaller place in an ecosystem. Lets say the maximum amount of deer in particular alloted, closed off forest, is 200. This forest supports 200 deer stability for a long period of time because of the self supporting ecosystem. Lets say a huge amount of food is dumped in that forest that only the deer eat. So the deer breed out of control and eat all the food, that food is gone and with a population of 2000 deer all the rest of potential food will be gone also. So the deer starve and die in huge quantities and after the damage they did on the environment, it supports only 20 deer now.

Since this same logic can be applied to humans and the world, why would we be worrying about something as seemingly trivial as abortion being legal or not? shouldn't space exploration be a bigger priority? Or at least more of an attention to what we are doing to the planet we are living on?

I really ask this because I do not understand your positions on this. Please help me here.

Che GuevaraErnesto Rafael Guevara de la Serna (June 14, 1928 - October 9, 1967), commonly known as Che Guevara, was an Argentine-born Marxist revolutionary and Cuban guerrilla leader. “Che” is an Argentine expression for calling someone's attention, and in some other parts of Latin America, a slang for someone from Argentina.Guevara was a member of Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement, which seized power in Cuba in 1959. After the revolution Guevara became second only to Fidel Castro in the new government of Cuba. After a brief stints as president of the National Bank and Minister of Industries, Guevara did not settle in as part of the new Cuban government, and tried without success to stage revolutions through guerilla warfare in various countries, notably the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Bolivia, where he was captured by a unit of the Bolivian Ranger Battalion advised by United States Green Berets on October 8, 1967, and executed the following day.BiographyIn 1951, Ernesto set off from his home town of Córdoba on a motorcycle tour of Central and South America. The poverty he observed during this trip led him to intensify his study of Marxist ideologies. Following his graduation from the University of Buenos Aires medical school in 1953, he travelled to Guatemala where a populist leader, Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán, had recently been elected president. Ernesto met several followers of Fidel Castro who were in exile there.
When the CIA sponsored an overthrow of Arbenz's rule, Ernesto volunteered to fight. Arbenz told his supporters to leave the country, and Ernesto briefly took refuge in the Argentine consulate. After moving to Mexico City, he renewed his friendship with Castro's associates. Ernesto met Castro when the latter arrived in the Mexican capital after being amnestied from political prison in Cuba, and joined his 26th of July Movement dedicated to the overthrow of Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista.Castro, Che and 80 other insurgents departed Tuxpan, Mexico aboard the cabin cruiser "Granma" in November 1956 to invade Cuba and start the revolution. The boat had been owned by an American, so the name most likely meant Grandma, as a tribute to the previous owner's grandmother. Shortly after disembarking in a swampy area near Niquero in South-East Cuba, the expeditionaries were attacked by Batista's forces. Only 12 rebels survived. Che, the group's physician, laid down his knapsack containing medical supplies in order to pick up a box of ammunition dropped by a fleeing comrade, a moment which he later recalled as marking his transition from doctor to combatant.. Within months he rose to the highest rank, Comandante (Major), in the revolutionary army. His march on Santa Clara in late 1958, where his column derailed an armored train filled with Batista's troops and took over the city, was the final straw that forced Batista to flee the country.His execution of deserters and spies in the revolutionary army, have led some to consider Guevara a ruthless leader. However those persons executed by Guevara or on his orders were condemned for the usual crimes punishable by death at times of war or in its aftermath: desertion, treason or crimes such as rape, torture or murder. For example, Dwight D. Eisenhower signed orders for imprisoned troops that had deserted to be executed. In 1959, Che Guevara was appointed commander of the La Cabana Fortress prison. During his term as commander of the fortress from 1959-1963, he oversaw the execution of what some estimate to be approximately 500 political prisoners and regime opponents. Many individuals imprisoned at La Cabana, such as poet and human rights activist Armando Valladares, allege that Guevara took particular and personal interest in the interrogation, torture, and execution of some prisoners. In fact, when Che's column had captured enemy soldiers who had not committed crimes against the public, such as rape and torture, he would simply take their ammo and release them.Unlike other leaders, he gave up all the trappings of privilege and power in Cuba in order to return to the revolutionary battlefield and, ultimately, to die. He persuaded Castro to back him in the first, covert Cuban involvement in Africa. Guevara desired to first work with the Simba (aka "Lumumbaist") movement in the former Belgian Congo (later Zaire and currently the Democratic Republic of the Congo), with the goal of overthrowing the government and installing a Communist regime. He rapidly discovered that having worked for a successful revolutionary leader does not make one a successful revolutionary leader.U.S. Army Special Forces advisors working with the Congolese army were able to monitor Che's communications, arrange to ambush the rebels and the Cubans whenever they attempted to attack, and interdict Guevara's supply lines. Guevara proved unable to supplant the native Simba leadership, and in fact was forced to place his troops under Simba command. Every military operation planned by him failed miserably. Late that same year, ill, humiliated and with only a few survivors of the force he had brought into the country, Guevara left the Congo.Following a lengthy recuperation in Cuba, traveling on a false passport Guevara entered Bolivia in November of 1966, again with the idea of organizing a revolt and hoping to topple Bolivia's pro-U.S. military government and installing a Communist government there. A parcel of jungle land in Nancahazu was purchased by native Communists and turned over to him for use as a training area. The evidence suggests that this training was more hazardous than combat to Guevara and the Cubans accompanying him. Little was accomplished in the way of building a guerrilla army. On learning of his presence in Bolivia, President Rene Barrientos is alleged to have expressed the desire to see Che's head displayed on a pike in downtown La Paz. He ordered the Bolivian Army to hunt Guevara and his followers down.Che Guevara traveled to Bolivia in an attempt to aid a popular uprising there, but there are many factors which he simply did not predict. First of all, there was an American presence in Bolivia; after the U.S. government learned of his location, CIA operatives were sent into Bolivia to aid the anti-insurrection effort, and the anti-insurrectionists were being armed and trained by American officials. There was also the lack of help which Che had expected when he undertook the journey. For example, Fidel had told him that the communist party in Bolivia would aid him in the insurrection but they did not.Che and his insurrectionists found themselves cornered in Bolivia, the American aid to the Bolivian government on one end, and the lack of assistance from his allies. In addition to this, the CIA also helped anti-Castro Cuban exiles to set up interrogation houses for those Bolivians who were thought to be assisting Che Guevara and/or his guerillas, which were often used for torture of these individuals.The anti-insurrectionists were notified of the location of Guevara's guerilla encampment by a deserter; and on October 8th, 1967the encampment was encircled and Che was captured while leading a patrol in the vicinity of La Higuera, Bolivia. His surrender was offered after being wounded multiple times in the legs and having his rifle destroyed by a bullet. According to soldiers present at the capture, during the skirmish, as soldiers approached Guevara, he shouted, "Do not shoot! I am Che Guevara and worth more to you alive than dead." Barrientos ordered his execution immediately upon being informed of Guevara's capture. Guevara was summarily executed; he was taken to a rugged old schoolhouse and bound by his hands to a board. Supposedly, Ernesto Guevara did have some last words before his death; he allegedly said to his executioner, “Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man,” after which he was shot in the heart.A CIA agent and Veteran of the US invasion of Cuba at the Bay of Pigs, Felix Rodriguez, heard of Guevara's chapter and relayed the information to the CIA. He has said on multiple occasions that he was the one that shot Guevara. This is generally thought to be untrue. After the execution, Rodriguez took Che's Rolex watch, often proudly showing it to reporters during the ensuing years. Guevara died on October 9th. He was buried in an unmarked grave in the vicinity of the execution site after the CIA had removed his hands to send to different parts of the world to ensure his identity.Also removed was Guevara's diary, which outlines the guerrilla war being fought in Bolivia. It tells of the group being forced to begin operations due to discovery by the Bolivian Army, the eventual and accidental split of the group, and the general failure of the guerrilla. It shows the split between Guevara and the Bolivian Communist Party that led the guerrilla to have significantly less soldiers than originally anticipated. It shows that Guevara had a great deal of difficulty recruiting the local populace due mainly to the fact that the guerrilla group had learned quechua and not the local language. As the campaign drew to an unexpected close, Guevara was becoming increasingly sick. He suffered from asthma, and most of the guerrilla's last offensives were carried out to obtain medicine for the sick leader.The Bolivian Diary was quickly and crudely translated by Ramparts Magazine and circulated around the world. Fidel Castro has denied involvement with this circulation. This is a considered a strange accusation, for the diary does not idealize guerrilla warfare.From the group of 27 guerrillas that set out on Febuary 1, 1967, only 3 survived after October 9, 1967. They crossed the Andes Mountains into Chile. There, they were met by Salvador Allende, who gave them asylum and helped them reach Cuba.In 1999, the skeletal remains of Guevara's body were exhumed, positively identified by DNA matching and returned to Cuba, where he is revered as a heroic revolutionary leader.Che's book, Guerrilla Warfare, was seen for a time as the definitive philosophy for fighting irregular wars. However, with his death in Bolivia his "Cuban Style" of revolution outlined in the book was thought by some to be ineffective. Guevara believed that a small group (foco) of guerrillas, by violently targeting the government, could actively foment revolutionary feelings among the general populace, so that it was not necessary to build broad organizations and advance the revolutionary struggle in measured steps before launching armed insurrection.In the late 1960s, he became a popular icon for revolution and youthful political ideals in Western culture. A dramatic photograph of Che taken by photographer Alberto Korda in 1961 soon became one of the century's most recognizable images, and the portrait was simplified and reproduced on a vast array of merchandise, such as T-shirts, posters, and baseball caps.Che's reputation even extended into theatre where he is depicted as the narrator in the musical Evita, who becomes disillusioned with the increasingly corrupt and tyrannical Eva Peron and her dictator husband. Biggest Resume Mistake

Your resume is the most important document in any job search. But what if you're submitting resume after resume and receiving no results at all -- not even a call? Your resume may be fatally flawed.

How can a resume betray a job seeker? It's not just typos or poor formatting. According to Lauren Milligan, founder of ResuMAYDAY, a resume-writing and career coaching firm based near Chicago, "The biggest flaw for a resume is when it fails to showcase a person's accomplishments, contributions, and results, and instead spouts a job description of each position he's held."

Use these three tips to make sure your resume doesn't betray you.

1. Think Big

Whatever jobs you've held -- be it as an assistant or a CEO -- think beyond the everyday tasks of your position. Shares Milligan, "People get bogged down in the day-to-day details of their jobs, but when it comes to your resume, you've got to get out of the clutter and ask yourself, 'What does this work mean?'"

She continues, "If I'm hiring for an administrative assistant, I already know what one does. I don't want to see a resume that only says an applicant can type and answer a phone. You have to go beyond that to point out your specific strengths."

Start by having big-picture conversations about what you do and how it serves the organization as a whole. States Milligan, "If you're in a support position, consider how successful the person you support is and how you help her do her job better. What role do you have in her successes? Those are your accomplishments."

2. Be Clear

Focusing on your accomplishments rather than your specific responsibilities will help keep your resume concise. "There's a huge difference between a resume and the Great American Novel," says Milligan. "The resumes I'm most proud of summed up a 25-year career in a single page."

She urges job seekers to remember that resumes are typically skimmed for a mere six to eight seconds. "Make sure you're identifying the companies you worked for, how long you were there, and if you earned a promotion. Those are things that people look for immediately." Also, if your job title is long and vague, tighten it up so that people immediately understand what you've done. For example, "Marketing Manager" is much more accessible than "Global Identity Architect."

Given the time you have to catch a recruiter's eye, a focused, accomplishment-driven resume is the way to go. She adds, "If you are loaded up on peripheral stuff, it's too hard for a hiring manager to find your story."

3. Get Real

What if you're trying to think about how you've helped build the big picture for your employer and you come up blank?

"A couple of times I've talked to people who insisted they just did their jobs and there's nothing special about them that jumps out," Milligan observes. "I've asked these folks point-blank, 'Are you really in the right position then?'" It's a difficult question to ask, according to this resume expert, but, she says, "These people may be chasing the wrong job."

She counsels clients that if they cannot speak about what they've done in terms of enhancing the position or the company, "You may be just punching a clock -- and you and your employer deserve more."

Are you a `nice guy` to women, and then wonder why you`re not getting laid?... Do women lead you on, only to burn you later?

Mr. Right isn`t necessarily a good guy. Mr. Right isn`t necessarily a nice guy. Mr. Right doesn`t necessarily care whether or not he`s Mr. Right.

Women know before hand the hard-to-find traits that they`re looking for in a guy ("Mr. Right"), and because there are so seemingly few in existence, women don`t put their lives on hold.
Instead they go from guy to guy, boyfriend to boyfriend, subconsciously hoping that one day this Mr. Right will suddenly drop into their lives. To a woman, Mr. Right is someone who appeals to her own personal style. Mr. Right could be anyone... And it`s not about looks (sure looks might get her attention, but only for a moment).
Again, Mr. Right could be anyone, and so a woman will perform "tests" to see if a particular guy might be a Mr. Right.
For the purpose of this article, let`s say that Mr. Right is a guy who`s presence tells the world that he expects respect, and he doesn`t have to work for this respect.

Is Mr. Right A Bad Boy?
So everything about you says that you deserve respect just because you were born. But do you really deserve this respect?... Time to put you to the test.
For example, sometimes women will "lead you on" as a means of testing you... If you respond in any way that tells a woman that you think she`s leading you on, you`ve just failed the test. So no matter what happens, never do anythingthat makes her think that you think she`s leading you on. One easy way to disable this specific test is to put a stop to all contact with her the moment she attempts to test you (and don`t waste your time telling her off - it`s counterproductive!). Turn your back (so to speak) and don`t say anything, and do not be affected. If you tell her off, it shows her that she`s had an affect on you.
By acting unaffected, her mind will go to work, wondering why you`re not affected by her antics... Allude (but be subtle) to other women, and you`ll make her think that the reason you`re not being "strung along", is that you have other women to choose from... Remember to be subtle, because if you outright say that you have other women to choose from, or that you "can get any girl", you may challenge her pride. And if she`s prideful, this can give her the psychological strength to leave you and never look back.

Why Bad Boys Have Their Way With Women
The more a woman wonders as to what your intentions are, the more she becomes involved psychologically, and the more your value goes up in her eyes... Remember: To pass her tests, ignore them. Do not give her tests the time of day. If her tests are persistent, laugh at them until she feels foolish for trying to test you.
When she tests, treat her like she`s your kid sister... Because in reality, this is how she`s acting. Sometimes women are aware they`re performing tests, and other times they`re not aware. Rather than chasing along, trying to pass her tests, laugh them off. And then go on as if it`s business as usual. Maybe you`ll piss her off and she`ll never want to talk to you again, but this is a risk you have to be willing to take. Chances are much greater she`ll have a lot more respect for you in the end. And even if she doesn`t want to talk to you again, be secure knowing that you didn`t play by her rules, and instead are telling her to play by yours, or hit the road.

Bad Boys Are Untouchables
If you`ve ever wondered why women go for "assholes", you`ve just learned a key driving force. In reality, most of these assholes aren`t assholes... They`re simply untouchable. They do things on their own terms. They can`t be negotiated with... They act with authority, and get the respect that goes along with it. They can`t be tested. They maintain independence from social constraints.
This is the kind of independence that Hollywood has glorified, because it`s a position that commands respect and authority. Women string guys along until they find a guy that they can`t string along. These are men who are (or seem) prepared to take risks and have adventures and along the way, will encourage the women, to be bad themselves. That`s the appeal of a bad boy. A woman can be as bad as she wants and not feel guilty because he`s acting badder.
The other thing is that bad boys are viewed as the kind of guys who like to party it up and have more "wild fun" than typical "nice guys". And they show women more fun. Bad boys like their lives. Women find their energy and self-confidence strongly attractive. When women find these traits in a nice guy (which is rare), they usually marry him. When they find it in a bad boy, they usually just sleep with him.

Want One Night Stands? Become A Bad Boy
If you want plenty of one night stands, consider taking on the aura of a "bad boy"... Or in more common terms... BECOME A BAD BOY... Then put yourself in an environment where women are looking for guys like you, and you`ll find many vying for your attention.
